Why Isn’t My Law Firm Showing Up in Google’s Map Pack? (Louisiana)

You Google “personal injury lawyer” in your own city, and three firms show up in that little map with the pins and the star ratings — and yours is not one of them. That map is the Google Map Pack (also called the local 3-pack), and for a local law firm it is some of the most valuable real estate on the internet. Most people who need a lawyer never scroll past it.
If your firm is not there, it is almost never bad luck. It is usually one of a handful of fixable reasons. Here are the seven we see most often with Louisiana firms — and what to do about each.
1. Your Google Business Profile is not fully built out
Google cannot rank a profile it does not trust, and a half-finished profile reads as low-trust. The fixes are unglamorous but they move the needle: the right primary category (for most PI firms that is “Personal injury attorney,” with secondaries like “Maritime attorney” where it fits), 15–30 services listed, real business hours, and a complete description.
2. You do not have enough reviews — or they have gone quiet
Reviews are one of the strongest local ranking factors, and it is not just the total that matters — it is velocity, meaning how steadily new ones come in. A firm with 55 reviews that has not added one in three months often loses to a firm with fewer total reviews that is adding several a month. Most firms have plenty of happy clients who would leave a review if simply asked with a direct link.
3. Your name, address, and phone number do not match everywhere
Google cross-checks your NAP — name, address, phone — across the web. If your address is written three different ways across your site, your profile, Yelp, and the bar directory, that inconsistency erodes trust and rankings. It should be identical, character for character, everywhere it appears.
4. You are outside the centroid and not making up for it
Google tends to favor businesses close to the center of the city being searched. You cannot move your office, but you can offset a less-central location with everything else on this list — stronger reviews, a fuller profile, and location-specific pages on your site for each parish and city you serve.
5. Your website has no local pages backing up the profile
Your Business Profile does not rank in a vacuum — Google reads your website to confirm what you do and where. A firm with a dedicated, genuinely useful page for each practice area and each city or parish it serves gives Google far more to work with than a firm with a single “Areas We Serve” list. Thin or duplicated pages do not help; real, specific ones do.
6. You are getting beaten on reviews and content by one or two competitors
Sometimes you are doing fine and one competitor is simply doing more — more reviews, more recent posts, deeper pages. The fix is not to copy them; it is to find the specific gap (usually review velocity or a missing content lane, like question-based FAQ content) and close it deliberately.
7. You have never been optimized for how people actually search now
More and more clients do not scroll Google at all — they ask ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity “who is a good maritime lawyer in Houma?” and act on the answer. Firms with clear, question-based content and a consistent presence across their profile and citations are the ones those tools name. Most firms have no strategy for this yet, which makes it one of the biggest open opportunities in legal marketing right now.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to show up in the Map Pack?
It varies. Profile and NAP fixes can show movement in a few weeks; review velocity and content build value over a few months. Local SEO is steady compounding, not an overnight switch.
Do I need to pay Google to appear in the Map Pack?
No. The 3-pack is organic. The “Sponsored” Local Services Ads that sometimes sit above it are separate and paid, but the map results themselves you earn, not buy.
Is the Map Pack really that important for a law firm?
For local intent — “lawyer near me,” “car accident lawyer [city]” — yes. It sits at the top of the page with ratings and a click-to-call, and it captures a large share of the people ready to actually contact someone.
Can I do this myself?
Some of it — completing your profile, keeping hours accurate, asking for reviews. The compounding parts (a review system, consistent citations, real local pages, AI-search visibility) are where most firms bring in help so it actually gets done and stays done.

The three levers that get a law firm into the Map Pack
If your firm still isn’t surfacing in the Map Pack after the checks above, the fix is almost always a combination of profile completeness, reviews, and local relevance signals — not one silver bullet. Google explains the underlying model in its guide to improving your local ranking: relevance (does your profile match the search), distance (proximity to the searcher), and prominence (how well-known and trusted you are). Prominence is where most Louisiana firms lose — and reviews are the lever. The BrightLocal 2025 Local Consumer Review Survey shows how heavily searchers weigh review count, recency, and responses when they choose between the three firms in the pack.
