Why it matters

Why the Lafayette map pack is not one list

Google has said publicly that local results come down to three things: relevance, distance, and prominence. Relevance is how well your profile matches the search. Distance is how far you are from the person searching. Prominence is how well known you are, which includes your reviews and how often other sites mention or link to you.

Distance is the one that surprises people. A search for “dentist near me” from a phone in River Ranch, off Kaliste Saloom Road south of the Vermilion River, can return a different top three than the same search from north Lafayette or from Carencro up I-49. Drive down Verot School Road toward Youngsville and it changes again. So when an owner tells me “we rank first,” I ask: from where?

So we don’t judge local SEO by one search from your office chair. We check your visibility on a grid of points across the parish, showing where you’re strong, where you fade, and who takes over in each part of town. More in our post on how the Google map pack works.

What we work on to move you up the map

You can’t move your building, so the work goes into the other two factors, relevance and prominence. In practice, that means:

01

Your Google Business Profile

The right primary category matters more than almost anything else. We also fill out services, hours, attributes, and photos so Google has a clear picture of what you do. Our Google Business Profile management page covers the ongoing side of this.

02

Citations and NAP consistency

NAP means name, address, and phone. Google cross-checks your listings across directories, so an old suite number or former business name still floating around gets found and fixed.

03

Reviews

Volume matters, but so do recency and detail. A steady flow of honest reviews tends to beat a burst from three years ago. That’s the job of our reputation management service.

04

Location and service pages

If you serve Broussard or Scott but your website never mentions them, Google has little reason to connect you to those searches. We write pages that say something real about serving each area, not the same paragraph with the town name swapped out.

05

Local links and mentions

Chamber memberships, sponsorships, and community news all build prominence Google can see.

Where we work

Storefront or service area: it changes the plan

A clinic on Johnston Street with a front door and a sign plays a different game than a plumber who works out of a truck. Google’s guidelines say service-area businesses should hide their address and set service areas instead, but you still tend to rank mainly around the address Google has on file.

For service-area businesses, we lean harder on location pages, citations, and reviews that mention where the work was done. For storefronts, we focus on the profile, real location photos, and a correctly placed pin. Either way, no fake addresses or keyword-stuffed names. Those shortcuts tend to end in a suspended profile.

How we work

How we work

01

Map the starting line

We run a grid scan across Lafayette Parish for your top searches and show you where you appear and where you don’t.

02

Clean up the basics

Profile, categories, and citations come first, since everything else builds on them.

03

Build prominence

Reviews, location pages, and local mentions, at a pace that fits your market.

04

Re-scan and report monthly

You’ll see the same grid again each month, explained in plain English.

Honestly, map rankings can move faster than organic rankings, but they still take months of steady work, and nobody controls what Google shows. A competitor sitting right next to the searcher may outrank you there no matter what. Our goal is to widen the area where you show up.

We also take only one client per niche per area, so we’re never trying to rank two competitors on the same map. For one example of what local visibility can do for foot traffic, see the Apex Spine and Pain Center case study, where walk-ins went from zero to 5 per day.

Areas we serve

We’re based in Youngsville and work across Lafayette Parish and Acadiana, including Youngsville, Broussard, Scott, and Carencro, plus Breaux Bridge, New Iberia, and beyond. The full list is on our areas we serve page.

FAQ

Local SEO in Lafayette: frequently asked questions

Why do I rank in the map pack at my office but not across town?

Distance from the searcher is one of Google’s main local ranking factors. Your profile tends to be strongest near your address and weaker the farther away someone searches. Better relevance and prominence, mostly through your profile, reviews, and local content, can widen that area over time.

Can I pay Google to rank higher in the map pack?

No. Google states there is no way to pay for a better organic local ranking. You can buy ads that appear near or above the map results, but the regular map listings are earned through your profile, reviews, and overall reputation online.

How is this different from your Lafayette SEO service?

Local SEO focuses on the map pack and “near me” searches, which run mostly on your Google Business Profile, citations, and reviews. Our broader SEO program also covers your website’s technical health, content, and organic rankings. Many clients need both, and we’ll tell you honestly if you only need one.

How long until I see movement in the map results?

Profile and citation fixes can show early changes within weeks in some cases, but steady gains in competitive categories usually take several months. We re-scan your visibility grid every month so you can see what’s changing and where.
